The company, a provider of drug containment and delivery solutions, will introduce its expanded Vertiva 10mL on-body delivery system.

The company says this new platform is specifically designed to administer large-volume injectable therapies, including highly viscous biological drugs, making it suitable for a wide range of conditions such as cardiovascular diseases, oncology, immunology, and pain management.

It offers a pre-filled and pre-loaded on-body solution that can be customized to deliver drugs in different dosing profiles. From precise basal dosing to full-content bolus injections, its flexible motor-driven system aims to allow biopharma companies to adapt the platform to meet the needs of various therapeutic applications. This versatility is especially important as more complex biological drugs enter the market.

The company says one of the standout features of Vertiva is its two-part system, which includes a single-use pod containing the drug-filled cartridge and a reusable smart controller. The pod is pre-assembled and ready to use, simplifying at-home treatment for patients. This setup not only provides ease of use but also ensures patient comfort, as demonstrated by a wearability study. The study found that patients accepted the device well, with many praising its secure adhesion to the body and its ability to allow for regular daily activities without discomfort.

The smart controller enhances the platform’s functionality by enabling real-time monitoring of drug administration. Data can be recorded and transferred via Bluetooth to digital health applications, offering an opportunity for remote monitoring by healthcare providers and deeper integration into digital health ecosystems.

Sustainability is another key advantage - by separating the reusable controller from the disposable pod, Stevanato Group minimizes the environmental impact of the device, reducing waste from electronic components and making the product eco-friendlier.

The group is also leveraging its partnership with Thermo Fisher Scientific to bring Vertiva 10mL to market. This collaboration, the companies say, ensures seamless support from drug development through to final packaging, providing biopharma companies with integrated solutions, including pre-sterilized EZ-fill cartridges, fill-and-finish services, and final assembly.

Visitors can experience a live demonstration of the Vertiva 10mL system at Stevanato Group’s booth (20C1) at CPHI Milan 2024.
