The “customer evaluation centre” in Cramlington, Northumberland replicated a clean room and houses single-use mixers, bioreactors, fermenters and other single-use biomanufacturing technologies.
In addition to allowing customers to try out the technology, the site will also host training sessions.
A spokeswoman told us the idea is to allow biopharma firms to test Thermo Fisher’s single-use technologies, in the hope they will buy them for their own facilities.
“The centre will be used by colleagues onsite and in the commercial business to demonstrate equipment to customers.”
She added: “The centre will offer our customers an opportunity to see and interact with Thermo Fisher Scientific’s broad portfolio of single-use products onsite. Historically, specific products would have been shipped to the customer’s location upon their request.
“The centre will allow customers to see a broader range onsite to evaluate their single-use technology needs.”
Thermo Fisher recently bolstered its single-use technology business with the acquisition of Finesse Solutions, its long-term supplier of measurement and control solutions for bioprocessing applications.
