The Sartoflow Smart benchtop crossflow system has been designed for ultra- and diafiltration (UF/DF) applications within downstream processes, and according to Dr. Marc Jenke - the firm’s expert on such technology - it is “a milestone in the landscape of small crossflow systems.“
Jenke told Biopharma-Reporter.com the new product offers clients “options that are normally available with process systems [and] therefore, together with an exceptionally wide working range of membrane surface areas, the system is the perfect tool for R&D optimisation trials as well as for cGMP productions.“
The system is suited for scaling studies and low volume UF/DF work over a wide range of surface areas, he continued, from 50 cm² to as much as 0.14 m².
He also added it comes ready to be used in production and cGMP environments, and is unique among crossflow benchtop systems as it has a “low shear 4-piston membrane pump, offering numerous options, cGMP compliance, additional sensors (conductivity, pH or Temp), and pre-defined process sequences.“
The system can be used for the purification of vaccines, monoclonal antibodies, recombinant proteins, blood serum products and other cell derived components, and can be utilised for small batch production, scale down models, membrane screening and process characterisation at minimal process volumes.
According to Jenke, the Aubagne, France-headquartered bioprocessing firm’s Sartoflow range is a “cost efficient approach“ to process transfers.
“Operational parameters are captured and transferred easily to any other data evaluation system or to any production site. We offer a scalable DCU-4 based platform technology including process analysis tools like DoE [Design of Experiments] and MFCS [data capture and monitoring software].“
